Introducing: field issue
"anybody can be a runner... we were meant to move. we were meant to run. it's the easiest sport."
-bill rodgers
We joined forces with NEW BALANCE (NB) to create a functional activewear collection for Spring/Summer 2020. Inspiration for the menswear line is centered around outdoor recreation. Together, we created a fresh, active wardrobe that is inspired by the running trend of the 1970-80's. During this time, running became a cultural phenomenon that transcended from sport into a major market. At the time, New England native Bill Rodgers, an Olympian, marathon champion and record holder, was one of the front runners of the sport. The desired gear of this period - NB sneakers, shorts, heather grey tees, sweats - was the main source of inspiration for our collaboration. We set out to create a modern collection with contemporary fits and materials that allow the wearers the freedom of movement, breath-ability and comfort both indoors and specifically, outdoors.
Sourcing domestically was a focused effort and we carefully selected materials which include American-grown Supima cotton jersey and fleece. All knit trims are American made including buttons, zippers, snaps, draw-cords, labels and hang-tags. Woven styles are manufactured in the U.S. of imported fabric and trims.
The colors are reflective of tones found in nature and the palette is earthy including fern, ash, earth, and indigo. The colors in combination with the materials achieve an enhanced level of softness and comfort fit for trail running and other outdoor activities. Graphic logos are tonal and influenced by a field issue, utility-inspired labeling structure which is more about informing than branding.
Key styles include a versatile throwback cotton herringbone anorak that is easy to pack and layers over all tops. A drawstring cotton herringbone pant with elastic bottom cuffs is as much track pant as it is a fatigue pant. Supima fleece active tops and bottoms compliment the assortment along with our iconic Supima jersey tees.
SKU Founder, David Mullen, "We were excited for the opportunity to collaborate with NB. They have a rich New England heritage and commitment to manufacturing in the region. Their new Boston headquarters is celebrated for green building practices. If you like running outdoors, we should make sure we are doing our part in protecting it."
